3 SPECIFIC ways to create raving fans

Over the past two days, I’ve been sharing how to create RAVING fans…

Today, I’m going to share 3 MORE specific ways to create raving fans…

In our company, we call them GWYNs, after our Next-Level Avatar, Gwyn Morasko.

#1. Know your flock…

A good shepherd knows their sheep. And you should get to know individual audience members, as much as practically possible.

This is where the CONNECTION takes place.

We learned a painful (and expensive) lesson when we inadvertently ignored the proven way to engage with customers and prospects.

Get to know your people. Know their names, remember past comments, and call them out from time to time.

Follow up with them to ask if a tip you offered worked or if they need additional help.

Know your flock, and they will bring others into it.

#2. Deliver more than you promise…

When you know what your audience actually wants AND you can speak their language, always deliver just a little bit more than you promise.

John Ruhlin, the author of Giftology: The Art and Science of Using Gifts to Cut through the Noise, Increase Referrals, and Create Raving Fans calls this “surprise and delight.”

You want to surprise them with just a little extra…deliver an unexpected bonus that DELIGHTS them.

This little extra effort brings a smile to their faces and draws them closer to you.

Notice I repeated the use of “little extra”…here’s why:

This bonus value doesn’t have to be some massive undertaking. It’s actually quite simple to surprise and delight your followers with a small effort.

Here are some examples;

  • If you offer a PDF download, add a five-minute screencast video walking through how to use the PDF.
  • If you offer five calls, throw in a sixth bonus call that you announce at the end of the fifth.
  • If you promise to deliver seven strategies, give them eight.
  • If you offer to host a one-hour lesson, stay on for an extra ten minutes for Q&A.
  • If you promise that members get access to four pieces of content each month, add a fifth every few months at random intervals.

Continually offer just a little bit more than you promise. It doesn’t have to be complicated or take that much time.

But it CAN make a huge difference and create raving fans!

#3. Share their stories

Simply put, people want to know you are listening to them.

They want to feel heard. And being heard means being responded to.

If you were having a conversation with your spouse or close friend and they presented a problem, would you sit in silence or walk off to talk to someone else “more important”?

Of course not!

You would listen closely and provide a thoughtful response.

That is the only way people know you are actually listening to them.

One way to do that is by periodically interviewing a few members of your audience.

Pay attention to the specific words and phrases they use.

For example, within my company, we refer to the process of identifying and signing up affiliates as “recruiting affiliates”.

That’s fine to use internally but…NO ONE asking questions about growing their affiliate program used this phrase.

Instead, they asked, “How do I find affiliates?” or “Where can I find affiliates?”

So we changed our EXTERNAL language (what we use in our podcasts, videos, and so on) to “find affiliates.”

We even named one of our flagship courses Find Affiliates Now which reflects that understanding.

If we’d called it The Affiliate Recruitment Formula, odds are no one would buy it because that name means nothing to them.

Stories create an emotional connection with your audience.

And the best stories to tell are those of fellow audience members.
