Our daughter gets it. She’s not even three years old yet, but she knows two things. 1. Where money comes from. 2. How to melt her daddy’s heart.
“Thank you for working daddy. Thank you for making us money.”
With those eleven words, the tears flowed.
Tears of thankfulness. Tears of love. Tears from being overwhelmed. Tears of knowing that she gets it.
Of all the days to say that she chose this day. Or was it chosen for her?
363 days out of the year, I am energetic, positive, and generally love my work. This day was one of the other two. I’m not sure why, but it was.
I arrived at home early so that Tara could take our dog to the vet. I took Aracelli up for a nap and that’s when she said those heart-melting words.
At first I cried. Then I smiled and gave her a big kiss on the forehead. Then I wrote this.
As she sleeps, I write. Soon, I’ll help a client do something amazing. And I’ll do it with the energy and passion I am known for.
All because of a little girl’s words.
Special note: Aracelli, if you ever read this and in case you’ve forgotten how much your words meant to me that day, thank you. I’ll never forget them.
Words are so incredibly powerful. How have others’ words shaped your life? What is one thing someone said to you that will live with you forever?

I think kids know, somehow, when we need a lift. I’ve had almost that identical moment with Sebastian.
I heard someone say that kids are able to see things we can’t see. I wonder if that’s true. It’s kind of creepy sometimes 🙂
Thank you Matt! we have just started the year, but this gets my vote for best post of 2014. So many blessings.
Yes…this one is one that I’ll have to refer to quite often myself 🙂
Now I’m tearing up too. Those moments are what make the hustle worth it. The late nights, early mornings, working on the “side business” on weekends, piles of stuff all over the house because we don’t have time to get to them. I love it when in the midst of our mess at home, my kids choose to ignore it and say “Do you want to come watch a movie with me?” My answer is always yes.
PS, I’m not at all for child stars, but I bet you she would sell a lot of Krispy Kreme! She’s SO adorable!!
We’ve been approached more than once (not by Krispy Kreme) but our answer is always the same. And yes…she looks just like her mom.
She is definitely a beautiful little girl inside and out. You and Tara are doing a wonderful job of raising her.
We can be bucket fillers in life, or bucket dippers. Your daughter has learned early the benefits of being a bucket filler. What a fantastic foundation 🙂
I’m learning a lot from her.
I’m getting some unbelievable feedback in words from some people reviewing something I’m working on right now. The words have an amazing ability to stretch me in more ways than I can express. I’m so thankful!
Simply when my awesome wife Mendy tells me, “I believe in you.” and “thank you for loving me.” Those words empowers me. -Great post Matt.
“I believe in you” are four life-changing words Steve.
Awesome, and I don’t choose that word lightly.
🙂 how you been?
